Great Rivers Path part 4
Hiking from Rhoon to Rijsoord (18.37 km).
The tidal grienden Rhoonse Grienden and the Carnisse Grienden are unique nature reserves with special flora and fauna. You see the Oude Maas from a different angle every time; sometimes close by, sometimes further away between the willows. Heerjansdam has narrow dike streets.
Hike report
Started walking at the beautiful church in Rhoon where I finished last time.
Beautiful path through a forest of willow trees.
Walked for a bit along side a golf course. Was fun to watch old people play golf.
Meeting the Old Maas again.
Tall trees, I get happy when am amongst the trees.
Saying goodbye to the Old Maas.
The ‘Monument for Dutch Soldiers’ in Barendrecht was erected in memory of 24 soldiers of the 3rd Border Battalion, who were killed in the May days of 1940 during battles against the occupying forces at and on the Barendrecht bascule bridge, at the Goidschalxoord ferry and at the ’s-Gravendeel ferry.
Final goodbye to the Old Maas.
Say hello to the Waal. Will follow it a bit the next time and seeing it again in later parts of this path.
