Reflecting on the year 2024

Q1

The first quarter of the year was quite stressful and I was unhappy with my work environment which was the cause of all the stress. I started talking to my colleagues about this and soon figured out that more people were feeling the same things I did. We send a letter of concern to the management team. We had a few good round the table talks with all staff. We talked things out, dived deep into what was the cause, and made plans how to improve them.

Q2

After the letter of concern and the whole process afterwards, it was like a weight was lifted from my shoulders. I was happy at work again.

In May I went to South Africa for a week to visit and explore Cape Town. It was an interesting experience to say the least.

Q3

Losing 30 kilograms in 3 months was amazing. From 116 kg on the 1st of July to 86 kg on the 29th of September. 90 days, that is 0.33 kg per day, 1 kg every 3 days.

Q4

Focus a lot on work. Got a new function as data engineer in a new team the company was building. Half December it was clear they would kill the team, for various reasons. One of the reasons was that the people that managed the team were not full into it. Back to just “I am a Software Engineer”, what can I do now. The whole experience of getting into the Data Engineering role was educational and challenging. As a Software Engineer I thought many times.. men this could be done with a shell script on 1 machine, takes hours to write, minutes to run. But no, we choose Azure, days to build, hours to run.
